The ultimate Eminem playlist
Marshall Mathers, aka Eminem, has been controversial his whole career. From mentioning just about every celebrity in his music to commenting on current events, there is no denying the argumentative nature of his being.
Whether you hold him on a pedestal of rap music or you think he is overrated, his huge song catalog cannot be dismissed.
Below is a list of my favorite Slim songs and what I like about them. Note: these tracks are in no particular order. I'm going off of a playlist I made on Spotify called "i'm shady."
Don't want to read this huge list? Synopsis: My favorite album: The Eminem Show. My favorite two songs (right now): Castle + Arose.
You Don't Know - Eminem, 50 Cent, Ca$his, Lloyd Banks (Eminem Presents The Re-Up)
This song starts with 50 and the beat gets you hyped. I remember I wasn't crazy about this "Re-Up" album but this song is one that still gets airplay from me in 2018.
Jimmy Crack Corn - Eminem, 50 Cent (Eminem Presents The Re-Up)
Another track from the "Re-Up" that I liked. The two-word alliteration got me.
My Name Is - Eminem (The Slim Shady LP)
Groundbreaking classic Em. Name-dropping and catchy hook.
Guilty Conscience - Eminem, Dr. Dre (The Slim Shady LP)
This track stands out to me because of its narrative. Dre is the good guy and Em is the bad guy. I'm ashamed to admit I just recently got into this gem.
'97 Bonnie & Clyde - Eminem (The Slim Shady LP)
Dark Em, but probably not his darkest (yikes). I am a sucker for any song where Em is singing any part of the track. Just the two of us...
Role Model - Eminem (The Slim Shady LP)
This song is another Em classic to me. Vulnerability and raw emotion.
I'm Shady - Eminem (The Slim Shady LP)
So come and kill me while my name's hot! You're not listening to this song for the message.
Still Don't Give A F*** - Eminem (The Slim Shady LP)
He just wants you to know that he still doesn't care.
Kill You - Eminem (The Marshall Mathers LP)
Em's sound effects stand out in this track. From chainsaw to whatever other noise he makes. The beat is forever memorable too.
Stan - Eminem, Dido (The Marshall Mathers LP)
I mean, this list wouldn't be worth making without this track. Though extremely dark and twisted, the narrative is beyond powerful. I love the live version he did with Elton at the 2001 Grammys. Rocking that baby blue jump suit with a backwards visor.
The Way I Am - Eminem (The Marshall Mathers LP)
This song best portrays angry Em. He's too real on this one.
The Real Slim Shady - Eminem (The Marshall Mathers LP)
Another one you can't help but listen to for the beat and wordplay instead of message or narrative.
Marshall Mathers - Eminem (the Marshall Mathers LP)
Trash talking more celebrities while also wondering why people care about him now? He's just Marshall.
Kim - Eminem (The Marshall Mathers LP)
This song is extremely dark and sick to say the least. The emotion in it makes it powerful to me.
White America - Eminem (The Eminem Show)
One of the first political songs I remember hearing by Em. I absolutely love this track. No one wanted to give him a chance making music because he's white. Oh the irony.
I could be one of your kids.
Business - Eminem (The Eminem Show)
I just love this track. It's fun Em.
Cleanin' Out My Closet - Eminem (The Eminem Show)
Classic dark Em. I remember hearing this on the radio. Crazy.
Square Dance - Eminem (The Eminem Show)
The hook on this one gets me.
Soldier - Eminem (The Eminem Show)
A story of resilience.
Say Goodbye Hollywood - Eminem (The Eminem Show)
I love the soft tone of this song's intro and the dramatic shift.
Without Me - Eminem (The Eminem Show)
This song is just fun. You can't fight it or deny it.
Sing For The Moment - Eminem (The Eminem Show)
I absolutely love this song. Probably in top 10 Em songs for me. The story is so compelling and relatable. My favorite lines:
That's why we sing for these kids who don't have a thing except for a dream and a - rap magazine. Who post pinup pictures on their walls all day long. Idolize their favorite rappers and know all their songs. Or for anyone who's ever been through s*** in their lives, so they sit and they cry at night, wishing they die, til they throw on a rap record, and they sit and they vibe. We're nothing to you. But we're the - s*** in their eyes.
Superman - Eminem, Dina Rae (The Eminem Show)
Another classic. Dirty. But...just listen.
Hailie's Song - Eminem (The Eminem Show)
Another one of my absolute favorites. A sweet song. Em's singing to his daughter.
WHEN THE MUSIC STOPS - EMINEM, D12 (THE EMINEM SHOW)
The message of this song is interesting. Music vs. reality.
SAY WHAT YOU SAY - EMINEM, DR. DRE (THE EMINEM SHOW)
A personal favorite Dre x Em collab.
Say what you say, say what you say when you say it whenever you saying it. Just remember how you said it when you were spraying it. So who you playin' with HUH?
'TILL I COLLAPSE - EMINEM, NATE DOGG (The eminem show)
Nate Dogg kills this hook. Another classic Em song on everyone's list. The thematic resilience returns.
MY DAD'S GONE CRAZY - EMINEM, HAILIE JADE (THE EMINEM SHOW)
I absolutely love this one. One of my favorites on this album. Just a fun song Em did with his daughter.
NEVER ENOUGH - EMINEM, 50 CENT, NATE DOGG (Encore deluxe)
This song just starts out powerfully. Fast paced and racing.
YELLOW BRICK ROAD - EMINEM (ENCORE DELUXE)
This track touches on some struggles that Em has faced in his past. Vulnerable and innocent.
like toy soldiers - eminem (encore deluxe)
Expectations vs. reality. Catchy chorus. Real message and current state of hip-hop.
There used to be a time where you could just say a rhyme and wouldn't have to worry about one of your people dying. But now it's elevated.
MOCKINGBIRD - EMINEM (ENCORE DELUXE)
Another touching song written for his daughter.
Hush little baby don't you cry everything's gonna be alright...
CRAZY IN LOVE - EMINEM (ENCORE DELUXE)
Samples a great Heart song.
FACK - EMINEM (CURTAIN CALL DELUXE)
The antithesis of a touching song. Eminem, none the less.
RENEGADE - EMINEM, JAy-Z (CURTAIN CALL DELUXE)
Em straight up killed Jay's track. Both verses are super strong. But just another undeniable music opinion.
DEJA VU - EMINEM (RELAPSE: REFILL)
A great track talking about Em's struggles with drugs and addiction. One of my favorites and I think an underrated Em track overall. Probably my favorite Relapse track.
Maybe just a nice cold brew. What's a beer? That's the devil in my ear, I been sober a - year.
BEAUTIFUL - EMINEM (RELAPSE: REFILL)
A beautiful song, truly. I remember loving this video on MTV too. It's so Detroit. So genuine.
FOREVER - EMINEM, KANYE WEST, LIL WAYNE, DRAKE (RELAPSE: REFILL)
Great names on a great track. Gateway Drizzy.
COLD WIND BLOWS - EMINEM (RECOVERY)
Honestly I do not like the first 30 seconds of this track but after that I do like it. I like the idea of this song a lot.
GOING THROUGH CHANGES - EMINEM (RECOVERY)
Any of his 'real' songs are my favorites. So this has to be on here. I love vulnerability in music.
Marshall, what happened that you can't stop with these pills?
NOT AFRAID - EMINEM (RECOVERY)
Another resilience anthem.
NO LOVE - EMINEM, LIL WAYNE (RECOVERY)
I love this song. I love Wayne and Em together. So good.
SPACE BOUND - EMINEM (RECOVERY)
If AIM was still a thing, this would have definitely been my away message/buddy profile at some point.
I'm a space bound rocket ship and your heart's the moon. And I'm aiming right at you.
SO BAD - EMINEM (RECOVERY)
I like the confidence of this song.
LOVE THE WAY YOU LIE - EMINEM, RIHANNA (RECOVERY)
This song is messed up. But a great one. Got so much airplay too.
BAD GUY - eminem (the marshall mathers lp2)
AKA Stan part II. Everyone was waiting for this song for soooo long. It was super hyped up. Just the idea of it. I think it lives up to the hype in ways, but it took a while for me to get into the track. I still listen to it in 2018 though. Great part II.
F*** it, I'm coming to see you. And gee, who better to talk to than you. The cause of my problems. My life is garbage and I'm bout to take it out on you.
BERZERK - EMINEM (THE MARSHALL MATHERS LP2)
rap god - eminem (the marshall mathers lp2)
Pretty self-explanatory. Crazy video though. I remember buying it on my iPad.
THE MONSTER - EMINEM, RIHANNA (THE MARSHALL MATHERS LP2)
Another banger collab. with Rihanna. Radioplay all day.
SO FAR... - EMIENM (THE MARSHALL MATHERS LP2)
This song is funny. I like the singing in the beginning too. The tone changing drastically is so Em.
LOVE GAME - EMINEM, KENDRICK LAMAR (THE MARSHALL MATHERS LP2)
Everyone was waiting for this. It's so good.
headlights - eminem, nate ruess (the marshall mathers lp2)
This is another one of my personal favorites. It's a serious song about Em's relationship with his mom and how he regrets some past songs like Cleanin' Out My Closet. The "fun." feature is nice on this track. A very late public apology to his mother.
But I'm sorry, Momma, for "Cleanin' Out My Closet." At the time I was angry, rightfully? Maybe so. Never meant that far to take it though. Cause now I know it's not your fault, and I'm not making jokes. That song I no longer play at shows. And I cringe every time it's on the radio.
WALK ON WATER - EMINEM, BEYONCE (REVIVAL)
This is such a strong opening to the Revival album. So important. It took me a few listens to fully grasp it. We're all just human.
CHLORASEPTIC - EMINEM, PHRESHER (REVIVAL)
This song just goes hard. That's all I can say..
RIVER - EMInEM, ED SHEERAN (REVIVAL)
I love this track. I love Ed on hip-hop songs. A really nice element in the Revival album.
REMIND ME - EMINEM (REVIVAL)
A funny light-hearted track with a great spoof of "I love rock n roll."
LIKE HOME - EMINEM, ALICIA KEYS (REVIVAL)
This is the one. I love political Em. And I love Alicia!
BAD HUSBAND - EMINEM, X AMBASSADORS (REVIVAL)
The almost ironic element of this song is great. I love the brutal honesty in it too.
How come you can be a lord and a loser? How come, how come you can be a liar and a good father? ... Why are you a good father? A great dad? But a bad husband.
CASTLE - EMINEM (REVIVAL)
My favorite track on Revival. I could listen to it on repeat forever. The chorus is so nice. The story is crazy. Part I = Castle. Part II = Arose.
AROSE - EMINEM (REVIVAL)
To me this is Part II to Castle. Should be one track in my opinion. So good. Listen to them both starting with Castle.
WHEN I'm GONE - EMINEM (CURTAIn CALL DELUXE)
A sad song but a great one. Greatest Hits Em.
LOSE YOURSELF - EMINEM (CURTAIN CALL DELUXE)
8 Mile Em. I don't need to say anything about this one.
Forgot about dre - eminem, dr. dre (2001)
This beat is so awesome. So memorable. The crazy fast chorus too. Unforgettable.
I NEED A DOCTOR - EMINEM, SKYLAR GREY, DR. DRE (I NEED A DOCTOR)
Em crying out for help. Again, the vulnerability in this song is so awesome.
MY BAND - D12 (D-12 WORLD)
These chicks don't even know the name of my band. I love this song. So funny. If you don't get the humor this song is directed at you.
PURPLE PILLS - D12 (Devils night)
This song is so catchy. I remember listening to it in gym class in high school.
Still d.r.e. - eminem, dr. dre, snoop dogg (2001)
What's the difference - EMINEM, Dr. DRE, Xzibit (2001)
One of my favorites on 2001. Great collab.
CRIMINAL - EMINEM (THE MARSHALL MATHERS LP)
Old Em. Angry Em. He's gonna kill you.
Difficult - EMINEM
An "unreleased" song dedicated to the late Dudey. I love this song. Listen to this one if you haven't heard it.
Somehow I know you're near me in presence...
DROP THE WORLD - EMINEM, LIL WAYNE (REBIRTH)
I almost forgot this one because it's technically a Weezy song. But this is a great feature. I remember I was obsessed with this track for a while when it first dropped. It still goes hard in 2018.
What songs am I missing? There's some. I skipped "We Made You," "A** Like That," "Just Lose It," other funny songs, etc... anyways, this huge list is just a work in progress.
