Get Out is a protest against silence

I saw the film Get Out in theaters a while back and was really engaged in it. I saw it by myself after getting off work super early on a Friday. Everyone was talking about the movie and I had to see what it was all about.

It was an incredible film and I think most people would enjoy watching it. It also makes you think, though it is mostly classified as a horror type of film...though according to Golden Globes it was a comedy film. Ha!

Anyways, Kanye has a verse on the song Watch with Uzi and Travis Scott where he says, "one year it's Illuminati, next year it's a Sunken Place." This line is a reference to the allegation that he is part of the Illuminati and then how recently he was in his own Sunken Place, when he was feeling low and acting out...per usual.

So what exactly is the Sunken Place?

“The sunken place is the system that silences the voice of women, minorities, and of other people … the sunken place is the President who calls athletes sons of bitches for expressing their beliefs on the field and the homeland of our most beautiful immigrants sh*tholes. Every day there is proof that we are in the sunken place.”
-Jordan Peele

"Still, it’s heartening to see a black man get up on a prominent stage to be honored for a movie that he wrote and directed, a movie about racism that was driven by his voice. Hopefully, it’s a sign that we’re getting closer, ever so slowly, to a place where women, minorities, and other marginalized people are too vocal and too powerful to silence."
