Just what I needed
Today Chance dropped 4 new singles. They all have very similar artwork and came sort of as a surprise, though he was supposed to drop an album, according to Complex, this week. He called that a fallacy though. But still dropped 4 tracks.
They’re great. I think they’re exactly what I needed.
I’ve been kind of bored with my Spotify lately. I don’t know if it’s because I’m too busy to find new music or haven’t dedicated enough time to it lately, but either way, I needed something fresh. And this is that.
Stylistically, it’s Chance. Sonically, it’s Chance. Lyrically, it’s Chance. But it has such a new vibe to it.
The songs are Work Out, Wala Calm, I Might Need Security, and 65th and Ingleside.
Some of the highlights of the tracks involve Mayor Raymond Emanuel and a mention of Gambino. “And Ram you done / I’m expecting a resignation / and open investigation on all these paid vacations for murderers.” To Donald Glover: “All my raps was about suspension / then one day Donald took me on tour / young, broke Chano ain’t broke no more.”
He also mentions how he bought the Chicagoist on I Might Need Security. “I bought the Chicagoist just to run you racist bitches outta business.” The news was then confirmed.
Though he didn’t release a full album this week, I love these four tracks. I also will be seeing him perform this Saturday at the Special Olympics downtown. I really have to learn these tracks before then.
Thank you, Chance. You never disappoint.
