Em’s new album
On Friday, Eminem dropped a surprise album, Kamikaze. The album features Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon, and was executive produced by Dr. Dre. Other features on the album include Royce Da 5’9”, Joyner Lucas, and Jessie Reyez.
He referenced lots of artists throughout the duration of the album including Kendrick Lamar, J.Cole, Tyler The Creater, Lil Xan, Lil Pump, Die Antwoord, and more.
He also goes on to comment on his fallout from the anti-Trump freestyle that basically went viral last year during the BET Awards, where he rapped, “any fan of mine who’s a supporter of his/I’m drawing in the sand a line, you’re either for or against...If I could go back, I’d at least reword it and say I empathize with the people his evil serpent sold the dream to that he’s deserted...that line in the sand, was it even worth it? Cause the way I see people turning in making it seem worthless/It’s starting to defeat the purpose/I’m watching my fan base shrink to thirds/and I was just trying to do the right thing, but word.” And in the same song, he claims, with indeterminate sincerity, that the Secret Service met him to ask if he’s linked with terrorists. “I said, ‘only when it comes to ink and lyricists,’” Em raps.
I wrote recently about Nicki Minaj’s collab with Em off her new album titled Majesty. He returned late last year with his ninth studio album, Revival.
I need to do a few more listens through the project to really get my own opinion on it. But from the first couple listens, I am not super into it. That could, however, change. We shall see.
