SOTD: Love of my life

I recently FINALLY saw Bohemian Rhapsody in theaters with my sister and totally was amazed. I have been a Queen fan since high school…not die hard, like my Beatles obsession, but I understood their legacy and importance in music history and really enjoyed listening to their immense music catalog of hits.

The movie opened my eyes to a lot of things…probably a lot of it is high level Queen facts that most every fan knows already, but to me it was new. I have watched one live concert of Queen’s and really liked it but didn’t feel any sort of connection or anything because the time period wasn’t one I could relate to personally.

Anyways, I really enjoyed the soundtrack and especially the song Love Of My Life which they showed Freddie writing and composing by himself. I had heard the track before but never really got into it. I guess I wasn’t listening to the words or reading the lyrics.

[Verse 1]
Love of my life, you've hurt me
You've broken my heart, and now you leave me

[Pre-Chorus]
Love of my life, can't you see?

[Chorus]
Bring it back, bring it back, don't take it away from me
Because you don't know what it means to me

[Verse 2]
Love of my life, don't leave me
You've taken my love, you now desert me

[Pre-Chorus]
Love of my life, can't you see?

[Chorus]
Bring it back, bring it back, don't take it away from me
Because you don't know what it means to me

[Bridge]
You will remember, when this is blown over
And everything's all by the way
When I grow older, I will be there at your side
To remind you how I still love you (I still love you)

[Chorus]
Hurry back, hurry back, please bring it back home to me
Because you don't know what it means to me

[Outro]
Love of my life
Love of my life
Ooh, ooh

It’s such a vulnerable song and full of such deep emotion, I can’t imagine it not striking a nerve in every listener. The singing, of course, is just beautiful in it’s own right, too. I also really love when the audience sings the song with him. It’s chilling.
