SOTD: Fuh you

I’ve really been loving this new Paul McCartney album, Egypt Station. One of his singles, which I wasn’t super into during its initial release, Fuh You, has really grown on me. Paul recently released the subsequent video for the song, and it’s really interesting and fun. It is basically a kid walking around and singing to the song. He is with a crush earlier in the video and walks off.

[Verse 1]
Come on baby now, let me look at you
Talking 'bout yourself, try to tell the truth
I could stay up half the night, trying to crack your code
I could stay up half the night, but I'd rather hit the road

[Pre-Chorus]
On the night that I met you, I was on the town
On the night that I met you

[Chorus]
I just wanna know how you feel
Want a love that's so proud and real
You make me wanna go out and steal
I just want it fuh you, I just want it fuh you

[Verse 2]
Come on baby now, help me work it out
I won't let you down so you don't need to shout
I could stay up half the night, playing with your head
I could stay up half the night, but I'd rather go to bed

[Pre-Chorus]
On the night that I met you, I was on the town
On the night that I met you

[Chorus]
I just wanna know how you feel
Want a love that's so proud and real
You make me wanna go out and steal
I just want it fuh you, I just want it fuh you

[Bridge]
And everyday, in every way
And everyday, in every way

[Chorus]
I just wanna know how you feel
Want a love that's so proud and real
You make me wanna go out and steal
I just want it fuh you, I just want it fuh you
I just wanna know how you feel
Want a love that's so proud and real
You make me wanna go out and steal
I just want it fuh you

The kid isn’t; however, shown singing the song’s title, which has been “controversial” for Paul McCartney. The lyrics officially read: “I just want it fuh you,” but it sounds like something a bit raunchier. I also noticed that the kid isn’t shown saying “steal.” Not sure if that innocence was super intentional, but I noticed it.

With this one I was in the studio with Ryan Tedder whereas the rest of the album has been made with Greg Kurstin…. We were just thinking of ideas and little pieces of melody and chords and the song just came together bit by bit. And then I would try and make some kind of sense of the story. So it was like, “Come on, baby, now. Talk about yourself. Tell the truth, let me get to know you,” and basically I wanna know how you feel, you make me wanna go out and steal. I just want it for you. So that was the basic idea and it developed from there…. Sort of a love song, but a raunchy love song. There you go—fuh you.

Overall it’s a great pop hit by Paul and I can’t wait to see it in concert.
